Just finished up a handful of new pendant necklaces for a friend of mine. She also ordered a couple for her sisters, as well. Separate, they are beautiful but together they are fabulous... just like the 3 of them, I'm sure. Thanks for the order, Sabrina... I think I see a black, white and blingy necklace in MY future!

War Era Women...

My grandfather fought in WWII. My grandmother stayed behind, raising the first of their 3 children and lending a hand where a hand was needed. She stenciled numbers on war planes at one point and I have always thought that was the greatest thing. She also was, and still is, a very beautiful woman. I could only hope to be the woman that she was and is. These vintage beauties adorned the noses of many a warplane in their day... now, they can adorn you!

Fresh Squeezed Jewelry!

Ok, I totally ripped off our other blog, Fresh Squeezed Photography (pardon the plug!), but I figured I better put some new jewelry up here soon! I have a few orders coming in for necklaces and key chains, but until then, here you go! This is my newest and most favorite... not that I'm partial or anything!

Green... it's the New Black!

Once upon a time, in a land not too far down the 91 freeway, there was a middle school taking their state tests. Hundreds of students were given snack and juice pouches to enjoy during the breaks, in hopes of keeping them focused. The End.
Wait, what???? The end?? What happened to all those juice pouches you ask? Well, a lovely lady who worked in the school's office (a.k.a. my mom!) knew I had been making juice pouch tote bags from pouches we had been saving. So, she and her office friends collected hundreds of these used juice pouches for me, saving me tons of money and time in my recycling efforts! I graciously accepted these little gems, laundered them, dried them, categorized them by color and then stored them. And stored them. And stored them. Until a light bulb went off! 10 minutes later, the newly upcycled juice pouch reusable baggie was born!
So... If you're looking for even more eco-friendly ways to pack your snacks and lunches, check out these upcycled juice pouch reusable baggies! I received a request from a friend of mine last week to make a "REusable sandwich baggie". At the time, I had never heard of it but told my friend I would look it up and get back to her. I must've been living under a rock all this time.... well, more like a landfill! What I found were these great little lined cloth baggies that you can use over and over again, saving yourself a little money and the earth of all that pesky, unwanted plastic!
So, I set out.... scouring the fabric stores for a thin, plastic backed fabric lining and some fun, fabulous fabrics for my friend.... phew! A few hours later I had come up with my version of a nifty little idea! So, with a few hours at my machine and some photos and status updates to my Betsy's Drawers facebook page, we had ourselves a little following!
With "Back-to-School" upon us, this idea couldn't have come at a better time! I, myself, use an ungodly amount of plastic baggies every day. And every day, I throw out an ungodly amount... along with the money I spent on them! I am really excited to send my kids to school with their new fandangled reusable baggies... let's hope some of their classmates go home and beg their moms and dads for their very own Betsy's Drawers reusable sandwich and snack baggies!

Peek-A-Boo!!

Soooo.... it's been a while since I dusted off my sewing machine, but with spring upon us and warm weather making appearances, I thought I'd throw some vintage Betsy's Drawers peek-a-boo sets back on the ol' blog!
This little set was modeled by the infamous "Betsy", back when we were just starting out. I also added a couple examples of peek-a-boo sets that I can make-to-order.
